First Nations Health Programs at the
Whitehorse General Hospital advocates for First Nation patients to ensure
quality and culturally sensitive holistic health care. Services provided:
Traditional Medicine Program, Traditional Diet Program, Child Life Worker,
Community Liaison Health Promotion, Health and Social Liaison Workers,
In-Service Training/Education and Interpretation Services. The Liaison
Workers assist patients with: discharge plans and follow up care,
utilizing local services, assistance in the area of death, dying and
grieving, moral and emotional support, and alcohol and drug referral. Kwanlin Dun First Nation Community
Services and Programs:
Skookum Jim Friendship Centre is a
traditional house offering programs based on traditional teachings,
education and recovery, culturally relevant teachings, as well as
education, training and support. Yukon Aboriginal Women’s Council addresses
women’s issues and offers a one-on-one referral support system for
aboriginal women to identify and obtain training and job creation needs. Yukon Native Language Centre, YTG is
a training and research facility which provides a range of linguistic and
educational services to Yukon First Nations and to the general public.

(Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies) to improve the health and nutrition of

refuge to women and children in crisis, youth programs, as well as
programs and services promoting healthy relationships, family violence
awareness, prenatal nutrition, healing, personal growth and development. Healthy Families, Healthy Babies (Canada
Pre-Natal Nutrition Program) to improve the health and nutrition of
pregnant women, mothers and babies up to 1 year of age. Midnight Sun Yoga Studio, Joanne Van
Nostrand Sandy McClintock, Registered Massage
Therapist Yukon Family Services Association, Dawson
City, Mayo and Pelly Crossing Elaine Hanson, Alpine Meadow Massage and
Wellness Centre, offers services as a Registered Massage Therapist in
lymphatic therapy and nutritional consultation. Yukon Family Services Association, Haines
Junction serving Beaver Creek, Burwash Landing and Destruction Bay Canada Pre-Natal Nutrition Program
(Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies) to improve the health and nutrition of
pregnant women, mothers and babies up to 1 year of age. Canada Pre-Natal Nutrition Program

pregnant women, mothers and babies up to 1 year of age. Aquila Massage Therapy, Debra Nehring,
Registered Massage Therapist Child Development Centre Help and Hope for Families Society
offers shelter for women and children, programs and services addressing
family violence, self-help, healing and personal growth and development.
All counseling and support is strictly confidential. Liard Aboriginal Women’s Society (LAWS)
provides western and traditional psychotherapy to heal the effects of
physical and sexual abuse in residential schools. Liard Basin Task Force coordinates,
monitors and financially manages the following CPNP and CAPC programs. Canada Pre-Natal Nutrition Program (CPNP),
“Healthy Moms Healthy Babies” focuses on the health of pregnant
women both pre and post natal up to six months and one year for those at
high risk. Support is offered to moms who have low birth weight,
breastfeeding issues, social, health and emotional problems. Mom's and
Tots Community Kitchen teaches moms how to prepare healthy inexpensive
meals, provides home support and offers workshops. Four communities are
served daily through an outreach team. Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) offers the following programs:
Creative Playgroup is a pre-school
program for children 3-6 years which focuses on nutrition, physical
education, cognitive skills, fine and gross motor skills, language
comprehension and social and early childhood development. "I Am Me" a Self -Esteem
Building Program is outreached to children 2-6 years through daycares,
dayhomes, Aboriginal headstart, schools up to grade 1 and individual
sessions referred to the project. Toy Lending Library offers
educational toys for developmental improvement in children. Signpost Seniors Centre of Watson Lake
is involved with projects which support and promote the health of all
seniors. Youth Association of Watson Lake
provides employment and artistic opportunities for young people of Watson
Lake. Yukon Family Services Association, Watson
Lake serving Lower Post Youth Intervention Counsellor, Pat
Supeene, M.A. works directly with children, adolescents and their
families, as well as consulting with teachers and other concerned
individuals; using skills in professional counselling, therapeutic
recreation and community development. |
