Arctic Health Research Network-Yukon
is a community
driven, northern led, health and wellness research unit that facilitates
the identification of, and appropriate activities related to, health
research priorities in Yukon. Association franco-yukonnaise
promotes and protects the interests and well-being of Yukon francophones. Canadian Cancer Society offers
resources and programs towards the health, education and prevention of all
types of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people
living with cancer. Cancer Information Line, call 1-888-939-3333 (Yukon) Chamber of Commerce serves as
the umbrella organization for the community chambers and acts as the
collective voice of the Yukon’s business community. Community Chambers of Commerce unite business and professional people.
(Yukon) Food for Learning (YFFL) is a
non-profit organization funded by Breakfast for Learning through the
Canadian Living Foundation and Yukon Health & Social Services that
provides nutrition grants to schools in the Yukon. Health Promotion Unit (YTG) engages
in a range of activities to promote healthy decision-making and behaviour
and to prevent illness and injury. Key priorities currently are sexual
health, tobacco reduction and school health. Through public education,
workshops, training and support to other professionals, policy
development, and partnerships with others, we can provide you with ideas,
information, teaching resources and other tools for promoting health in
your school or community. Hearing Services (YTG) promotes early
detection of permanent hearing loss and middle ear problems and hearing
loss in infants and children. Services include: diagnostic hearing
assessment for all ages; hearing aid prescription and repair; earmold
impressions for swimplugs and hearing protection; consultation or training
for other professionals and the general public. Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and
Yukon provides activities and fund-raising programs to support healthy
living, including a door-to-door campaign, Jump Rope for Heart, Fit for
Heart and more. Skookum Jim Friendship Centre is a
traditional house offering programs based on traditional teachings,
education and recovery, culturally relevant teachings, as well as
education, training and support. Victoria Faulkner Women’s Centre is
an organization by women for women; providing phone-in and drop-in
information, lay counselling and support programs. The Centre also
provides advocacy services for women who are trying to obtain services or
are having difficulty working through the maze. Women’s Directorate (YTG) values
the diversity of women and advocates for their full participation in
society. Services are provided to address womens’ needs, including a
library of current resources/ publications on women’s issues. Yukon Archives (YTG) is located at
Yukon Place (next to the Yukon College). Yukon Development Education Centre (YDEC)
is dedicated to issues of international development. The Centre’s work
includes raising funds to support small international development
projects; holding an annual speaker series; organizing conferences and
seminars, film festivals, international dinners and other events. YDEC
also provides the public with information on overseas work opportunities
and offers a minor advocacy role. Yukon Human Rights Commission Yukon
Public Health Association (YPHA) is established to strengthen the impact of people who
are active in public and community health throughout the Yukon through
education, awareness, public participation and building of partnerships
and networks. Yukon Learn is a literacy coalition
promoting the development and provision of literacy services throughout
the Yukon. Services includes tutor training twice yearly in Whitehorse and
on demand in rural Yukon. In Whitehorse we offer one-to-one tutoring in
reading, writing and math. We also have special workshops including
beginner computer and inter-net classes. Yukon Public Law Library (YTG) is
located in the Law Courts building on Second Avenue in Whitehorse. Open
from 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday Yukon Public Legal Education Association (YPLEA) is a non-profit society whose goal is to help the public identify and understand their legal rights and responsibilities in order to improve their ability to deal with legal matters. Yukon Public Libraries (YTG)is
located at 2071 2nd Avenue in Whitehorse. Yukon Volunteer Bureau strives for
community development and capacity building through the development of
volunteers. We do this by providing training and resources on board
development, volunteer management, and organizational management; by
supporting non-profit organizations to celebrate their volunteers; by
connecting volunteers to opportunities to be involved; and by creating
networks where volunteers and non-profit groups can come together to share
ideas, resources, and information. |
