Active Living Alliance for Canadians with
a Disability is an advocacy group to increase active living for people
with disabilities. Autism Yukon supports people in the
understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders through resources, training,
support & advocacy. Blood Ties Four Directions Centre
offers confidential information, resources, counselling, needle exchange
and support for those affected and /or infected by HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis
C. BCPA – Yukon assists individuals
who are physically/mobility impaired in accessing services and technology.
Services include: peer counselling and support,
case-management/coordination, rehabilitation counselling,
vocational/employment services, and community advocacy. CNIB assists individuals who are
visually impaired or blind in accessing services and technology. Services
include: counselling and referral, vision rehabilitation and
rehabilitation teaching, orientation and mobility training, technical
aids, resource library, career development and employment. Evergreen Society
is a support group for parents and supporters
of severely disabled children and young adults. Judy Fortin, Freedom Trails, provides
therapeutic and recreational horseback riding programs for people of all
ages with a disability. Learning Disabilities Association of
Yukon (LDAY) provides individual and family counselling support;
educational and informational workshops; self-esteem and social skill-
building programs for children; referral to other beneficial resources; a
student-tutor matching program; and a resource centre. People First Society of Yukon offers
support, workshops and advocacy for those who have been labeled with an
intellectual disability. Karen Rach, M.Sc., CCC-SLP;
Speech-Language Pathologist, provides individualized and group
speech/language therapy, consultation, and assessment for children of all
ages with communication impairments. Special Olympics Yukon (SOY) enriches
the lives of Yukoners with an intellectual disability through sport. Teegatha’Oh Zheh provides support
for adults labeled with intellectual disabilities Located at: 108C Copper

It is specifically designed to be accessible to people using screen readers. Whitehorse Food Bank Email: office@whitehorsefoodbank.ca Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition facilitates the elimination of poverty in Yukon through awareness, advocacy and action. The Coalition coordinates Whitehorse Connects, a day of free services for the poor and inadequately housed; the Poverty and Homelessness Action Week in October; quarterly potluck suppers and partners with community members on issues including emergency shelters and the Food Bank.Email: yukonantipovertycoalition@gmail.com Yukon Association for Community Living
provides program development, education, research and support to promote
the integration of people with intellectual disabilities in the community.
Recreation and educational opportunities to children and adults who live
with disability or chronic illness are offered. Self-advocacy services
assist individuals to make choices for inclusion into an active community
life. Yukon
Council on Disability
will speak on behalf of Yukoners with disabilities and provide resources
and information on issues of equity, community awareness, government
policy and employment. Yukon Society Towards Accessible
Recreation and Sport (Yukon S.T.A.R.S.) uses sport and recreation as a
fundamental tool to build inclusive communities. We encourage people of
any ability to join in our programs of wheelchair basketball, hand
cycling, inclusive dance and community educational outreach. |
