After-School Sports Program, offers
recreational activities such as floor hockey, basketball, handball,
dodgeball, indoor soccer,lacrosse, Inuit Games, Dene games, etc. for youth
between the ages of 8-14. Activities are held at a variety of locations
and times. Boys and Girls Club of Whitehorse
offers a program-driven, drop-in facility for youth ages 12 to18. Run by
qualified staff, youth have the opportunity to meet their current and
future social, cultural, recreational and educational needs. Services
include: arts and crafts, computer/internet lab, job board, recreational
activities, cooking program and much more. Hours: Tuesdays to Saturdays 3
p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Bringing Youth Towards Equality (BYTE) is a youth-run, non-profit organization that is open and supportive to the diversity of all youth; supporting youth involvement in a variety of healthy activities. BYTE produces the following publications:

Services, Residential Youth Treatment Services is a government
resource providing a therapeutic service for youth (ages 10 to 18) where
stays may last up to 90 days. Comite Espoir Jeunesse contributes to
the development of French language and culture in young Yukon Francophones
and Francophiles by offering opportunities to develop personal and social
skills through sports, arts, culture, economy, environment and advocacy.
Everybody is welcomed! Crime Prevention Yukon focuses on
prevention of crime through early intervention, education, awareness, and
provision of resources; acts as a catalyst for linking groups and
information; serves as a partner in such projects as the Youth Leadership
Project and Vital Communities Resource Centre. Crime Prevention Yukon Youth Leadership
Project provides mentorship and healthy recreation opportunities for
youth in rural communities. Northern Wonders Special Needs Youth Program is dedicated to caring for special needs youth ages 12-16, and providing support and resources to their families. Contact Susan Langer at 668-3171 RespectED, is a Violence and Abuse
Prevention program from the Canadian Red Cross that addresses issues
surrounding emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, harassment, neglect and
relationship violence to youth and adults who work with youth. RespectED
presentations are delivered by extensively trained volunteers who are
carefully screened and are committed to building safer, more respectful
relationships in our community. Sexual Health Information Toll-free
Line 1-877-YK STYLE (1-877-957-8953) Skills Canada Yukon promotes trades
and technology career options for youth through skills clubs, skills
development workshops, skills competitions and other events. Staying Safe Program provides public
workshops on topics such as identity theft and robbery prevention, as well
as many brochures and booklets on preventing victimization. This eight week program focuses on the teaching of traditional ways by strengthening relationships between families and youth.

Y1A 1G1 Teen Parent Centre provides educational opportunities and
support for pregnant teens and teen parents wishing to complete
high-school. The Urban Mulitpurpose Aboriginal Youth Centre (UMAYC) of the
Skookum Jim Friendship Centre provides urban aboriginal youth the
opportunity for growth, empowerment, skill development and cultural
enhancement. The program focuses on traditional and contemporary programs
that meet the needs of youth between the ages of 10-29 years old. Vital Communities Resource Network is a program to connect and
support those who work to increase the safety and well-being of our
communities. It features a lending library, free meeting and work space,
learning and networking opportunities and advocacy for social change. Whitehorse Individual Learning Centre offers “disenfranchised
learners” (15 years and older) a variety of choices to continue or
recommence their high school studies. Students can complete their High
School Graduation through self-paced learning in a safe and respectful
environment. Youth Achievement Centre (YTG) serves at-risk youth between the
ages of 12 to 18. Referrals come from the departments of
Youth Justice, Family and Children Services and Education, as well as
self-referrals from youth and parents. A wide variety of learning and
recreational activities are offered to help youth become employable;
assistance in community placements also available. Youth Directorate maintains a network of youth and youth service
providers that identify and address the needs and concerns of all Yukon
youth. Youth Employment Assistance and Resource Centre for ages 15-24,
offers computers, internet, a job board, and staff to assist in resume
development, interview techniques, placement options and training
opportunities. Youth of Today Society, Blue Feather Youth Centre, a non-profit
group, provides a facility where youth can come together, participate in
programs, and link with other community supports to address their
physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs and dreams. Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle provides opportunities for youth
to try out for the teams that go to the Northern American Indigenous
Games, National Aboriginal Hockey Championship and enter the traditional
sport events held at the Arctic Winter Games. Yukon Youth Outdoor Leadership Association (YYOLA) is an
organization of community members who engage high risk Yukon youth in age
and ability appropriate outdoor education and physical activities that
promote healthy lifestyles. Youth Shelter for youths 17-20 years old. Alcohol and Drug
Services and Skookum Jim Friendship Centre in partnership provide the
youth shelter, with hours of operation from 9:00 pm to 9:00 am. Youth
wishing to access this service must be referred by the Skookum Jim
Outreach Workers (phone 335-1216)
